Therion....... The very word makes a grown man shudder if they have the misfortune of coming across one. Known to humans as Skinwalkers, Therion are one of the more discreet races.
On average, a therion will appear to anyone as an average Sapien of a muscular stature. Upon closer look, the eyes of a therion in human form are often coloured oddly and possess a primal flare, but other than that and a unique aroma, they remain indistinguishable from the rest of the Sapien.
The real difference comes in when they change to their true form. Sometimes this transformation is involuntary, changing at the sight of the full moon or at certain emotions or scents. Other times, certain therion have control over their transformation, being able to change freely between their human and bestial form.
Commonly known as werecreatures, the Therion's alternate form is often takes that of a large muscular humanoid creature covered in fur resembling a cross between the human and their given animal form. Others undergo a more complete transformation, changing into a larger version of an animal. Others still have long since discarded their human forms, preferring to stay in their bestial forms.
A typical Therion is characterized by their animalistic senses while human, and a massive burst in strength and durability along with their senses while in lbestial form.
The typical Therion-only government highly resembles a native tribe, where the strongest of the therions becomes the chief, watched over closely by the Old Breed, which are the oldest members of the pack. The newest members are those of the pups, who have just undergone their first few transformations and are still learning the ropes.
A Rite of Passage awaits the pups as they grow. Upon being abandoned in the wilderness, they are left to fend for themselves, using their abilities to track and hunt. After a month's time, if they still live, they will face one of the other members of the pack. Should they then win, they will replace the fallen therion as next of kin and be accepted into the pack.
To begin as a werecreature, one must be bitten by one, a toxin entering the bloodstream. The first of the symptoms will occur at the first full moon as the mystical energy triggers the evolution of their body into the bestial form, signifying their first step into a Therion.
