Vampires..... Humans have always seen them as a source of monster, having cheated death in order to come back as more than humans. In modern times, they now are classified under the Greek term Empuse, meaning children of Empusa, the bloodthristy and vengeful Greek goddess.
The first thing to understand about Empuse is that while their outer appearance remains relatively the same as humans, they possess a more pale skintone from death and the elongated canines that serve as their trademark fangs.
The rise of an Empuse often involves the insertion of another vampire's fangs into the neck of their victim, inducing ecstasy as they feed upon the lifeforce of blood they so greatly need. A toxin is emitted from the fangs, which soon infects the victim. As the victim soon experiences the effects of anemia and flu like symptoms, they are bedded for nearly a week before the body is seen as dead, often removed to be away from the temporary death.
Rigormortis which has now made the corpse stiff, goes through a reverse process, as the heart begins to beat oddly, restoring blood flow to the veins, as the stiff limbs become movable once more. The nervous system of the corpse is reanimated as a new vampire is born. The strange phenomenon has increased muscle function, allowing the stiffer muscles to be exerted upon greater than when they were mortal, allowing for greater displays of strength, agility and vitality.
The blood which now houses the toxin, serves as a drug to those who drink it, putting them into a state of ecstasy. However, the blood, while toxic, seems to become inflamed upon the exposure to uv radiation, namely sunlight. The blood ignites itself, charring the vampire around the points of exposure.
It is said the only way to stop these undead creatures is through decapitation, insertion of a weapon into the heart to stop blood flow, or the inclusion of sunlight to burn them alive.
Lastly, each vampire possesses a dark gift, an ability that has risen in them through supernatural means. As a vampire grows older, so too does their dark gift, becoming stronger with age. It is for this reason elder vampires are so much stronger than newly turns.
Even so, vampires stand out as formidable foes, mortals turned immortal through a first death.
