Notoriety is your character's current rating in the world of Premature Silence. The higher it is, the more well known you are. If it's in the positive, it means you are well received and well liked by your peers. If in the negative, it means you are loathed and hated.
Upon reaching a certain number, bounties can be placed on a character. Either a staff controlled NPC or another player will go to collect the bounty on your head, and receive credits and items based on their success.
The number will rise with each noble deed, heroic act, or plain generosity, allowing your character to gain fame though he/she may be hated by those with lower fame.
However, lie, cheat, steal, or conduct acts of treason, the number will lower, leaving you to be hated by others. Murdering NPCs or other players without just cause will also cause the number to lower.
At the end of the month, Notoriety bonuses will be given out to those who have succeeded in either becoming Sanctified or those who have been condemned by the masses.
So get out there and make a name for yourself.
